PPG introduces a new standard in high-performance coatings

With the introduction of the ambient temperature curing polysiloxane technology a novel class of high performance coatings has been introduced into the protective coatings industry.

By the combination of the inorganic polymer structure of polysiloxanes with organic binder systems, coating formulations have been developed that combine the corrosion resistance of high build epoxy polymers and exceed the weatherability of the best aliphatic polyurethane finish coats.

In addition, chemical resistance coating systems have been formulated which are used in tanklinings and concrete flooring systems. These coatings exhibit chemical resistance superior to any high performance coatings developed previously.

Epoxy Siloxane Hybrid Coatings

The versatile chemistry of the siloxane technology allows the formulation of coatings with a latitude of properties, which include anklinings and concrete flooring systems with improved chemical resistance. This chemistry has also enabled the development of epoxy siloxane hybrid coatings with following advantages:

Extended gloss and colour retention better than any aliphatic polyurethane topcoat without the toxicity concerns related to the use of isocyante curing systems.

Improved protection of steel structures in fewer coats with higher solids coatings, eliminating the urethane topcoat resulting in lower applied cost.

Longer coating life cycle by the extended protective service life and performance.

High solids levels which result in the development of less waste and significantly reduce the emission of solvents.


Pure Polysiloxane network binders

The chemistry described in the brochure 'Novel Siloxane Hybrid Polymers in protective coatings' has been successfully applied to create pure polysiloxane network binders. These binders have been formulated into pure polysiloxane coatings having maximised thermal, chemical and UV resistance.

Further, polysiloxane / organic "hybrid" coatings have been formulated that significantly enhance the properties of the selected traditional organic resin based coating. The polysiloxane chemistry provides versatility in product design by the development of pure polysiloxane coatings. Also enables constructions of siloxanes with chemistries to polysiloxane hybrids with epoxies, vinyls and phenol resins.
